Student Work and Mealtime Outs
A paid fifteen-minute break is required for students working four consecutive hours, and an unpaid thirty-minute meal break is required for students working five or more consecutive hours in a day. Students must clock out when taking their thirty-minute meal break.
Students are expected to engage solely in their assigned duties through the Work College Program while on the clock. Federal work-study regulations require students to be actively engaged in campus work during their scheduled hours; this means students should not use work time for homework, studying, or other personal academic tasks. As stated in the Federal Work Study Program's purpose: "The FWS provides funds for part-time employment to help students finance the costs of postsecondary education." Supervisors are responsible for providing students with adequate tasks to fulfill this requirement, and should address any pattern of a student engaging in non-work activities through the performance concern process outlined under Core Program Functions.
