HIS 324A Seminar in Asian History (AST)

Prerequisite: AST 243 or HIS 243 or AST 229 or HIS 229 or AST 240 or SOC 240 or WGS 240 or PSC 250 or permission of instructor

The goal of this course is two-fold. Through examining a key period in Asian history, students will develop both a deeper appreciation for an aspect of Asian culture and a better understanding for the various methodologies that historians employ in analyzing complex societies. By reading key primary documents and secondary material from important historians, students will develop a picture of the way social, economic, political, and cultural issues interact and shape the period. May be repeated for credit, provided the topic differs from those previously studied. For clarification on transcripts and degree audits, a China-focused section would be listed as AST/HIS 324C, a Japan-focused section would be AST/HIS 324J, and a section on other areas of Asia would be AST/HIS 324A.  World Culture (NonWestern) component of the International Perspective
